History

‘Therefore since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses…’ Hebrews 12v1a

Crosthwaite Church has a long history and it is thought that Christians have worshipped on this site for nearly 1500 years.  This church is dedicated to St Kentigern, also known as St Mungo in Scotland, who had been driven out of Glasgow and set up his cross in a clearing or Thwaite in 553AD – hence the name Crosthwaite.

This page and the linked page gives you a taster of the rich history of the church building although the church is more than that. The church is those Christians who have gathered, prayed and worshipped God here over the centuries through good times and through difficult times - and who can testify to God's faithfulness.

‘…you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house..’  1 Peter 2v5
