through regular and/or occasional giving.
“All things come from you, O Lord, and of your own do we give you”
To be a church family for all ages that is faithful to Christ, nourishing to us, and attracts others to worship. This leaflet contains information on:
•The work within our Parish for which we seek support
•Planned Regular Giving
•Gift Aiding Your Giving
2 Corinthians 9:6-
Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
THE WORK OF OUR PARISH
In Crosthwaite Parish we hold two to four services every Sunday of the year. There are weekday services in sheltered accommodation and we are involved with the Hospital Chaplaincy. We offer pastoral care, as we are able, to a wide variety of people in the town and area. We reach the young through Schools, Sunday 4U, All Age Worship, baptisms and weddings.
We have four well maintained buildings, St Kentigern’s Church, Underskiddaw Church Room, the Sunday School Room and the Parish Rooms which, over the past years, have seen many improvements (often funded by legacies and special gifts) and a widening of their use. We maintain a churchyard which is an amenity for the town.
We have good attendances including numerous visitors. Our festivals attract extra numbers. Many in the community look to us at times of crisis or celebration in their lives. We generously support missionaries, in this country and overseas. We give generously to charities and special appeals. Congregation members are influential in, and donate their time and skills to, many organisations in the town. People are drawn to us because, however stumblingly, we are holding to our vision statement.
It costs in the order of £2,000 per week to maintain the ministry and worship of Crosthwaite Parish.
All monies, however paid, are most gratefully received for the support of our ministry throughout the Parish. We do, however, offer one or two thoughts for your consideration on ways to give as alternatives to putting cash in the weekly church collection.
We do strongly encourage regular giving by monthly bank standing order, which reduces administration work, aids our budget planning and saves you having to hunt for cash every week.
FREE WILL OFFERING ENVELOPES*
If a standing order is not for you, then the Free Will Offering envelope scheme, in which you are given 52 numbered envelopes each year to put into the church collection, can help ensure that you maintain your weekly giving even if you cannot get to church some weeks.
WHICHEVER WAY YOU GIVE do please consider:
•enhancing your giving using Gift Aid (see later down the page)
•reviewing your giving annually

“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,”
says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven
and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it”

As many others have done over the years you may wish to consider including Crosthwaite Parish in the list of beneficiaries of your will. Your solicitor can assist with this.
It is most helpful if you specify that the legacy is to be used for general purposes for the benefit of maintaining the whole ministry of the Parish.
A clause similarly phrased to this could be included in your will:-
I give £.… (also include the amount in words) free of all taxes to the Parochial Church Council of the Parish of Crosthwaite, St Kentigern, Keswick (registered charity number 1132320) in the Diocese of Carlisle for its general purposes, and I declare that the receipt of an officer of the Parochial Church Council shall be a sufficient discharge to my executors.
An existing will can be amended by adding an appropriate codicil.
Please do consider taking professional advice before completing or amending a will. For further information or to obtain the forms mentioned in the leaflet, please contact:
